The very popular St Annes Kite Festival is back for 2021. From flying frogs to sky-high snakes and leaping lizards to daredevil dragons, scores of exotic inflatables add a splash of colour to the cliff tops above the popular seaside resort of Bridlington. The festival takes place on January 14 every year during Makar Sankranti and continues until January 15. Kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours take to the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields. Days ahead of the festivals, markets are filled with kite lovers and festival participants buying their supplies. Their intended function was to ward off bad luck and assist the military in delivering messages. Kite makers begin preparations for the festival months before its arrival.
